The VFFOTO hybrid Gold Mist D 1/2 NANO-PRO filter softens bright highlights more noticeably and creates a soft golden glow around them. Compared with D 1/4, it reduces contrast more strongly and gives photos and video a warmer, dreamier atmosphere directly in-camera.

Choosing the strength

Gold Mist D 1/4 or D 1/2?

Both strengths diffuse bright highlights into a soft, golden glow. D 1/4 offers a subtler effect, while D 1/2 delivers stronger diffusion and a greater reduction in contrast. The final effect also depends on the lighting in the scene.

Practical tips

Make the most of the light.

Gold Mist D 1/2 is most noticeable around bright lights and in backlit scenes. Its effect will be subtler in soft, even lighting. Check the glow and highlight detail before shooting; once captured, diffusion cannot be fully removed in post-production.

VFFOTO hybrid system

A screw-in and magnetic filter in one.

Screw the filter directly onto a lens with an 82 mm filter thread, or attach it magnetically to a compatible VFFOTO adapter or filter.

For magnetic mounting directly on a lens, you need a compatible VFFOTO adapter. The adapter is sold separately and is not included. No adapter is needed for direct screw-in mounting.

The front magnetic surface accepts another compatible VFFOTO hybrid or magnetic filter in 82 mm, such as a CPL or ND filter. When stacking filters, check for vignetting, especially with wide-angle lenses.

Combining with VND

Gold Mist 82 mm for these VFFOTO VND filters

Gold Mist 82 mm attaches magnetically to the front of the following VND filters, combining golden highlight diffusion with smoothly adjustable light reduction.

VFFOTO magnetic VND filter — 77 mm

VFFOTO hybrid VND filter — 72 mm

Planned VND availability: by the end of September 2026.

The 77 mm and 72 mm sizes refer to the VND filter size used to mount it on the lens; Gold Mist compatibility depends on the front magnetic mounting surface.

NANO-PRO quality

Intentional diffusion. Reduced unwanted reflections.

Gold Mist deliberately softens the image. NANO-PRO coatings reduce unwanted reflections on the glass and make the filter easier to maintain.

Optical glass Helps preserve fine detail while deliberately reducing microcontrast and giving highlights a warm character.

16 anti-reflective layers Eight layers on each side of the glass reduce unwanted surface reflections. Golden diffusion is the intended effect of the filter.

Durable nano coatings Reduce the adhesion of water, grease and dirt, making routine filter cleaning easier.

Compatibility

Hybrid Gold Mist filters and lens hoods

Check that your lens hood has enough clearance for the larger outer diameter of the hybrid frame.

Sufficient clearance

The hood must fit and lock into place without touching the filter frame.

Tight-fitting hoods

If the hood touches the frame, do not force it into place. The filter can also be used without a hood.

Compatible protective cap

Cover your lens with the filter attached.

The VFFOTO hybrid filter is not compatible with the lens manufacturer’s original cap. To cover your lens securely with the hybrid Gold Mist filter attached, use a compatible VFFOTO magnetic protective cap in 82 mm with grip.

Choose Gold Mist D 1/2 for a more pronounced golden glow around lights, softer contrast and stronger diffusion than D 1/4. Ideal for atmospheric portraits, weddings, evening scenes and video where the effect is intended to be a noticeable part of the image.

The 82 mm version screws onto a lens with an 82 mm filter thread or attaches magnetically to the compatible VFFOTO VND filters listed above.
