Protect the front element of your lens during everyday photography and on your travels. VFFOTO protective and UV filters provide an easy-to-clean barrier against dust, fingerprints, water droplets and minor scratches. Choose the right filter for your lens, shooting environment and way of working.
A filter is useful by the sea, on dusty trails, when photographing sports and wherever your lens may be exposed to dirt or splashing water. You clean the filter surface, reducing direct contact with the front element of your lens.
A filter complements the protection provided by a lens hood and cap. However, it cannot guarantee protection against lens damage in the event of a severe impact.
A UV filter reduces the transmission of ultraviolet light. In digital cameras, the filter stack in front of the sensor already blocks much of this radiation, so the main practical benefit of a UV filter is lens protection.
A UV filter does not replace a polarising or ND filter: it does not control reflections in the same way as a CPL filter and is not intended to extend exposure times.
The performance of a protective filter depends on the quality of its optical glass, precision of manufacture and surface coatings. Anti-reflective coatings reduce unwanted reflections on the glass surface, while protective nano coatings on the applicable ranges make water, grease and dirt easier to remove.
Details of the glass and coatings are provided in each filter’s description. When shooting towards bright light sources, check for unwanted reflections; depending on the situation, temporarily removing the filter may help.
A screw-in filter attaches directly to the front thread of your lens. A magnetic filter attaches using a compatible VFFOTO adapter. A hybrid filter supports both attachment methods and has a magnetic front for compatible VFFOTO accessories.
Choose the diameter according to your lens’s filter thread size, rather than its focal length. For wide-angle lenses, check the recommendations for the specific filter and setup, as the attachment method and stacking multiple filters may affect vignetting.
